"Mass Storage Device USB Device" keeps re-installing itself over and over again after...

I've read recently that you should remove from time to time old drivers (e.g. of USB devices) that are not used anymore to keep your system running well.

By using the software USBDeview, I found out that a "Mass Storage Device [USB Device]" is allegedly connected to my PC, even though there are no USB devices connected except for a keyboard/mouse dongle.

From the date of the first installation, I could conclude that this "Mass Storage Device [USB Device]" is linked to a USB-Surfstick which I did not use a lot and gave back to the retailer in the end due to its weak performance. Furthermore I found out that "the device" consists of a USB Mass Storage Device and a hard drive called "Mass Storage Device USB Device". If I disable the "Mass Storage Device USB Device" with e.g. USBDeview, the USB Mass Storage Device is marked as disabled/not working. As a consequence, the hard drive "Mass Storage Device USB Device" disappears in the "Device Manager" - and so does the symbol in the "Devices and Printers" window. And there is no tray icon anymore indicating that there is a USB device allegedly connected to my PC.

The point why I am posting the issue here is: in case I delete said "Mass Storage Device USB Device" either with the USBDeview software or manually in the "Device Manager" and restart the PC, the very same "Mass Storage Device" shows up in the "Devices and Printers" window, the "Device Manager" and the tray icon. In short: I cannot get rid of this device - I can merely disable it either with the USBDeview software or manually.

So, I would like to ask whether such a driver that keeps re-installing itself over and over again is a common thing?! I am not an IT expert at all, so I am really grateful for your assistance. Am I doing something wrong? To be on the safe side, I checked my laptop whether such a "Mass Storage Device USB Device" is necessary e.g. in case you use USB sticks or external hard drives - which I do with both computers. But on my laptop (where I did not use the Surfstick), there is no such "Mass Storage Device USB Device".

Even though this is not killing me, it is a little annoying, as I do not understand why I cannot remove this USB device/driver. Is that a bug? Do I have to live with it or is that a common "standard device/driver" which my PC needs and which I just haven't discovered beforehand?

Could you please give me a hint what to do? Or can I merely disable it?
